    Cardiac Health Europe Roundtable 2017

    15th May 2018,

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death and disability in Europe.

Despite the decreases in CVD mortality in Europe, more than 4 million people die from CVD across the continent every year, with more than 1.4 million dying prematurely, before the age of 75 years which accounts for nearly half of all deaths in Europe.

Many of these people have been exposed to unhealthy behaviours, including tobacco use, eating foods containing too much salt and inadequate physical activity.

Consequently, one of the most imperative health issues for EU member Countries now is to create comprehensive prevention plans and ensure that effective measures, policies, and interventions would be in place in all European countries.

This roundtable meeting will bring together; EU policy makers, medical and clinical professionals, academic experts, healthcare players and patient groups, to examine the ongoing challenges in managing more effectively and explore practical solutions in order to build a framework for action in cardiac health policy in the EU.

Participants will benefit from the insights of EU health officials and academic experts and help support the development of recommendations to address issues currrently experienced by patients and clinical researchers.

Subjects to be addressed include:
  • Securing a European Policy and regulatory environment favourable to cardiovascular health
  • Best practices in EU Member States: developing effective inter-country and interregional partnerships for concerted global action
  • Discussing the use of fiscal policies and marketing controls to influence demand for tobacco, alcohol and foods high in saturated fats, trans fats, salt and sugar
  • Addressing the social and environmental contexts for NCDs and healthy lifestyles
  • How can we develop cost effective and equitable health care innovations
  • Cardiac Health research and innovation: how to adopt a comprehensive strategy?
  • The potential of e-health and cardiology: for a more personalized patient care and a better quality and experience of health care?
Networking:

The Roundtable will also provide hours of networking time, including coffee breaks, lunch to ensure participants have the maximum possible time to establish and strengthen relationships, whilst exchanging ideas.
